A mother and her 3-year-old son were taken to the hospital after a car rear-ended their buggy Sunday night.

The crash happened around 7:30p.m. along the 5400 block of County Road 68 in DeKalb County. The driver of the car, Mindy Harris, 43, of Leo was going west bound on C.R. 68, but could not see the road very well because of the glare from the sun.

When the glare cleared she saw the horse drawn buggy and tried to stop, but could not in time. The car then rear-ended the buggy driven by Dennis Schmucker, 28, of Spencerville.

Harris refuses EMS at the scene, but two of the buggy passengers, Lasinda Schmucker, 31, and her son Caleb Schmuker, 3, were taken to the hospital.

The toddler was transported with a head abrasion.

The accident is under investigation.
