ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) — Two juveniles were arrested Thursday in connection to the Homestead High School blackface controversy.

According to the Allen County Sheriff’s Department, the department received reports of a social media post Thursday that indicated someone had a weapon and was waiting in the parking lot of Homestead High School.

After learning about the post, officers searched the parking lot and were unable to find a suspect connected to the post.

The sheriff’s department also said the post had the user’s location tagged, but authorities later learned that the juvenile used a Google image to falsify their location in the photo. Because of that, officials said they had no reason to believe the suspect was ever at Homestead High School.

WANE 15 learned the post, showing a gun, targeted the student who reportedly wore blackface, with a caption saying to “come on out.”

Further investigation revealed the suspect was a student from another school outside of Southwest Allen County Schools district, and authorities located the student at the school while it was still in session, according to the sheriff’s department.

Detectives interviewed the juvenile suspect with their parents present, and the juvenile was taken into custody for their involvement.

Authorities later confirmed with WANE 15 that another juvenile was arrested in Homestead’s cafeteria in a separate incident, but police did not provide any details about what led to the arrest.
