FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — A woman is safe following a four-hour hostage situation at a home in northeast Fort Wayne Wednesday night.
Around 9:20 p.m., police responded to an unknown problem at the house, in the 6500 block of Londonderry Lane. Officers learned there was a man armed with a handgun, barricaded inside with an adult female hostage. The man refused to allow the woman to leave the home and also refused to exit himself. Police made numerous attempts to get him to comply before calling in the Emergency Services Team, Crisis Response Team and the Air Support Unit to assist.
After the specialty units arrived, police made more attempts to get the man to allow the woman to exit the home, and for him to exit safely on his own. Around 1:20 a.m., the man surrendered and was taken into custody without incident. Neither he nor the female victim were injured.
The incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office.
