Senator Todd Young used the words “patriot” and “hero” to describe John McCain, saying in a statement that he served in the Senate with extraordinary courage, passion, sacrifice, and integrity.

Senator Joe Donnelly also offered his condolences saying in a statement, “I deeply mourn the loss of my dear friend and mentor, John McCain, an American hero of the truest kind. His example will always inspire me. I will remember John as representing the very best of what makes America the greatest nation in the world. May God bless his family, friends, and our nation just as John blessed us with his life.”

McCain did not win Indiana in the 2008 presidential election. Then presidential nominee Barack Obama focused more money and time on the state.

John McCain will receive a full dress funeral service at the Washington National Cathedral. Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama have been asked to offer eulogies at his funeral.
