NEW HAVEN, Ind. (WANE) – Eight people had to find another place to stay overnight into Friday morning after their house caught on fire.
New Haven fire crews responded to 8727 Jonathon Place around 1 a.m.
When they arrived, smoke and flames were coming from the garage area of the home.
Fire officials said six adults and two children safely evacuated the home before crews got there.
Initial firefighters on scene worked to attack the fire with hoses but needed further assistance from the Woodburn and Fort Wayne fire departments.
They were able to get the situation under control in about 37 minutes.
Fire officials said the fire likely started in or near the garage and spread to the attic from there. Smoke and water damage extended throughout the rest of the house, making it unlivable for the time being.
Fire officials said it wasn’t immediately clear if fireworks played a role in the fire. The cause is still under investigation.
No injuries to the family or firefighters were reported.
