FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — Fort Wayne Police searched at an east side apartment complex for a suspect in a shooting that left one man with life-threatening injuries early Sunday morning, according to a release from FWPD.
Just before 3:30 a.m., Fort Wayne Police officers on patrol near Hanna and Hayden streets heard several gunshots being fired nearby, according to the initial release from FWPD. While they searched the area, dispatch got a call reporting a shooting at the East Central Towers apartment buildings.
Officers arrived and found a man in the parking lot who was conscious but suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to a nearby hospital in serious condition. After getting to the hospital his condition was downgraded to life-threatening, according to the release.

The initial investigation revealed the shooting happened in the parking lot. The first release said detectives were looking through surveillance footage from the apartment complex and interviewing potential witnesses. During the investigation, officers were informed the suspect was possibly in the apartment building, FWPD said in the update.
WANE 15 had a crew on the scene, where there was still an active police presence into Sunday afternoon.
According to the updated release, officers tried numerous times, unsuccessfully, to make contact with the occupants of the suspected apartments.
