Winter prepares Parkview Field for summer baseball

Out at Parkview Field, not all opponents play by the rules.

“We’re competing every day against either mother nature or we’re competing against these teams,” head groundskeeper Keith Winter said.

The TinCaps open the season on Thursday on the road before returning to Fort Wayne for the home opener on Saturday. This is the 10th season at Parkview Field.

“He’s the best. He’s probably the single most competitive guy that I’ve been around,” Team President Mike Nutter said. “He’s extremely driven.”

Parkview Field was named 2017 Field of the Year by the Sports Turf Management Association.

A cold winter doesn’t bother Winter but the soggy spring can handcuff even the best groundskeeper. The field will be nice and playable by Saturday.
