October 20, 2018 – The Fort Wayne Mad Ants, presented by Lutheran Health Network, the NBA G League affiliate of the Indiana Pacers, selected four players in today’s 2018 NBA G League Draft. The Mad Ants also acquired Casey Jones, as well as the returning player rights to Donald Sloan and Trevor Cooney in trades with the Texas Legends and Long Island Nets respectively.
Northrop graduate and former IPFW guard Bryson Scott was selected in the 3rd round by the Raptors 905.
With the third and fifth picks in the second round, Fort Wayne tabbed Rob Gray from the University of Houston and Deion McClenton from Keiser University (FL). To round out the Mad Ants’ selections, Fort Wayne added Jared Sam in the third round.

Gray finished his career as one of the most prolific scorers in University of Houston history. He tallied 1,710 career points, which is eighth all-time in program history. The 6-foot-1 guard also finished as the American Athletic Conference’s all-time leader in scoring. Gray played in two games with the Houston Rockets in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas this past summer.
McClenton was a three-time NAIA All-America honoree. During the 2017-18 season, McClenton became the school’s all-time leader in points (1,719), made field goals (758), field goal percentage (64.8), offensive rebounds (362), rebounds per game (10.1) and blocks (201). He was also tabbed a finalist for the Small College Basketball Bevo Francis Award, which is presented annually to the player who had the finest overall season within Small College Basketball.
The 6-foot-10 Sam played four years at Southern University from 2014-18, which included a First Four appearance in 2016. Sam tallied 1,489 points and 937 rebounds in his four-year career with the Jaguars.
Fort Wayne agreed to a trade with Texas to send its 14th pick in the second round, Marquez Letcher-Ellis, from the University of Nevada, for the 74th pick in this year’s draft, Jones, and the returning player rights to Sloan.
Jones scored 1,314 points in his four-year career at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He was a two-time All-SoCon selection for the Mocs.
Sloan has been a journeyman across the NBA and the G League. He played 24 games during the 2017-18 season for Texas averaging 18.8 points and 6.0 assists per game. Sloan also played for the Pacers from 2013-15.
The Mad Ants later acquired Cooney from the Long Island Nets in exchange for a 2019 second round pick.
Cooney appeared in 22 games for the Nets in the 2016-17 season, averaging 3.5 points and 1.0 rebounds in 13.3 minutes per contest. The Syracuse alumnus played in 38 games for Leyma Basquet Coruna in Spanish LEB Gold play last season, averaging 10.0 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 25.8 minutes per game.
Training camp will begin on Monday at 5 p.m. at the Ash Centre. The full training camp roster will be announced tomorrow afternoon.
