FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Esteury Ruiz hit a pair of RBI triples on Saturday night, but the TinCaps fell to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (Milwaukee Brewers), 8-4. Parkview Field hosted its third sellout crowd of the season with 7,352 fans in attendance.
Ruiz’s first triple of the game came in the bottom of the first to give the ‘Caps a 1-0 lead. The infielder, who played at second base in this game, drove in center fielder Jeisson Rosario from first, after Rosario led the frame off with a single. Ruiz drove the triple to the wall in center field. Designated hitter Luis Campusano then grounded out to score Ruiz and make it 2-0.
The TinCaps (13-16) added to their lead with a run in the third. Catcher Juan Fernandez singled to start the frame, extending his on-base streak to 18 games to begin the season. Fernandez finished the game with a pair of hits — his second consecutive two-hit game. After a double from right fielder Jack Suwinski moved Fernandez to third base, Rosario scored him with a sacrifice fly.
The Timber Rattlers (10-17) began their comeback with a pair of runs in the third. Wisconsin then went in front with two in the fifth, and increased its advantage with a pair more in the ninth to lead 8-3.
Fort Wayne chipped into its deficit in the ninth when Rosario, who tallied two hits in the game, drew a two-out walk and Ruiz tripled down the left field line. Ruiz now has three triples this season, plus a team-high four home runs. His 49 total bases are tied for fifth most in the Midwest League. Meanwhile, Rosario’s .471 on-base percentage is tied for third best in the league.
The ‘Caps were hurt by their defense, though, committing a season-worst four errors, leading to three unearned runs.
