LIGONIER, Ind. (WANE) - A week after Waylon Richardson turned down the Phillies initial offer Philadelphia has meet the West Noble's contract request meaning Richardson has signed to play pro baseball.
"After turning down the Phillies they came back with an offer I couldn't really turn down and was hoping to match next year (in the draft)," Richardson told WANE-TV sports director Glenn Marini. "I decided to accept the offer and I fly out tomorrow."
Richardson, a 6-foot-5 pitcher, was drafted in the 40th round by the Phillies earlier this month. He had pitched the last two seasons at Kankakee Community College in Illinois and was set to pitch next season at Saint Leo University in Florida.
