A fixture on the Fort Wayne basketball scene for the last decade, John Peckinpaugh is leaving the Purdue Fort Wayne staff for a head coaching position at Division II Wheeling Jesuit University in West Virginia.

Peckinpaugh arrived in Fort Wayne as a player for the Mastodons from 2008-12. Upon graduation he joined Al Grushkin’s staff at Indiana Tech as an assistant for the 2012-13 season before returning to IPFW as a graduate assistant for 2013-14.

Peckinpaugh was then hired back as the head coach at Indiana Tech, spending three seasons guiding the Warriors and finishing with a 54-40 overall record.

He was hired as an assistant coach under Jon Coffman at IPFW for the 2017-18 season.

Peckinpaugh is a Muncie native. His departure is the second on the Purdue Fort Wayne staff this summer. Former Mastodons assistant Ben Botts – also a Muncie native – recently accepted an assistant position at Ball State.
