Norwell grad VanMeter a step away from dream

Sports

Picked by the Padres organization out of Norwell High School in the fifth round of the 2013 MLB Draft, northeast Indiana native Josh VanMeter sits just one phone call away from reaching his lifelong dream.

VanMeter – traded to the Reds organization in December of 2016 – is currently playing for the Louisville Bats, Cincinnati’s Triple-A team.

A shortstop and pitcher who led Norwell to the 3A state title, VanMeter has expanded his defensive horizons in hope of making it to the big leagues. VanMeter has been used to play outfield in addition to second base, third base, and shortstop over the last year and a half.

His first full season as a pro came in 2014 playing in front of friends and family for the Fort Wayne TinCaps. He went on to be named an All-Star in High-A ball for Lake Elsinore in 2016 and an All-Star in Double-A with Pensacola last season.
