Mastodons Fall in Series Finale to UND

The Purdue Fort Wayne softball team dropped the final game of its weekend series against North Dakota 4-1. Sunday was a Pink Out game for the Mastodons as all funds raised went to the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer.
 
Five different Mastodons had a hit in the game as Ashley Haas and Abby Baez each had a double.
 
UND scored all four of their runs in the first four innings. The Fighting Hawks scored one in the first, one in the third and two in the fourth.
 
The Mastodons got on the scoreboard in the sixth. Lacey Wilzbacher led off the inning with a single to left. After moving to third on a pair of groundouts, Hass brought her home on a double to the right-center gap. The ‘Dons would bring the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the seventh with two outs, but the ‘Dons were unable to send the game to extra innings.
 
Alyssa Malicki took the loss in three innings of work as she allowed two runs on four hits. Shaina Eyre came on for the final four innings as she did not allow an earned run on two hits with a strikeout.
 
Purdue Fort Wayne travels to Butler on Thursday, April 11, for a 4 p.m. first pitch.
