The Fort Wayne Mad Ants defeated the Erie BayHawks, 116-111, at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum on Friday night in front of a crowd of 3,952. Ben Moore, who was acquired by the team on Wednesday, scored 22 points and grabbed seven rebounds off the bench in his first game back in Fort Wayne since the 2017-18 season.
Two-Way player Edmond Sumner provided the highlights in his first game with Fort Wayne (1-1) this season supplying 22 points, four assists and three steals in just over 32 minutes played. Indiana Pacers assignee Alize Johnson notched his first double-double performance in his rookie season with 20 points and 10 rebounds.
Terrence Jones was the bright spot for Erie (2-1) finishing with 31 points and 13 rebounds in over 40 minutes of action.
Erie built a lead as large as 12 in the first quarter fueled by nine points from Jones in the opening frame.
The Mad Ants would use a 36-point second quarter to come back and eventually lead by as much as eight heading into the locker room. Sumner added 10 points in the quarter on 4-of-5 shooting to give the Mad Ants a lead they would not surrender the rest of the night.
RJ Hunter, Isaac Humphries and Craig Sword all finished in double figures for Erie. Despite converting 26 of 31 foul shots, Erie struggled behind the arc finishing only 5-of-27 from 3-point range.
Davon Reed followed up his 25-point performance from opening night with 18 on Friday night. Center Ike Anigbogu led the Mad Ants in rebounds with 13 on his way to a double-double performance.
The Mad Ants will host Maine tomorrow night, while Erie will travel to Canton tomorrow night as well.
