Mad Ants can’t dig way out of early hole in playoff loss

Sports

The Mad Ants trailed by as many as 27 points in the second quarter but their rally fell just short as Fort Wayne fell to the visiting Erie BayHawks 119-116 in their Eastern Conference semifinal game on Tuesday night at War Memorial Coliseum.

The Ants trailed by 14 at half, then cut the deficit to single digits in the third quarter. A DeQuan Jones three with a minute and a half remain in the fourth quarter cut Erie’s lead to three. The Ants had a chance to send the game into overtime in the final possession of regulation, but Jamil Wilson’s three was just off, sealing a win for the BayHawks.

DeQuan Jones led the Mad Ants with 29 points and 11 rebounds. Earlier in the day he was named the G League’s Most Improved Player.

Counting their playoff loss the Ants finished 29-22 overall under head coach Steve Gansey.
