Fort Wayne Flashback: Kelley Racing’s Sharp takes Indy 500 pole

INDIANAPOLIS (WANE) – On May 12, 2001 Scott Sharp made history for the Summit City as the driver of Fort Wayne-based Kelley Racing took home in the pole for the Indianapolis 500.

Despite success in qualifying, the actual race could not have gone much worse for Sharp. He crashed on the first turn of the first lap, finishing dead last in 33rd place.
