Konchar Sets Career Field Goal Record But ‘Dons Fall At Austin Peay

 John Konchar broke the program record for career made field goals but the Purdue Fort Wayne men’s basketball team fell 95-68 at Austin Peay on Saturday (Dec. 15) evening in a non-league game.  

Konchar entered the game needing two baskets to set the program’s field goal record. His 3-pointer with 15:07 left in the first half gave him his 609th career basket for the new record. He passed Bruce Roland who had 608 field goals from 1986-89.

The ‘Dons shot 31 percent (13-of-39) from the floor in the first 20 minutes. Austin Peay totaled 36 percent from the floor but used 15 offensive rebounds to score 16 second chance points. It helped Austin Peay lead 46-39 at the break following a 3-pointer at the buzzer. The second half saw the Governors score 18 of the first 26 points of the half. It pushed Austin Peay to a lead as large as 18 points in the first six minutes of the second half.

Terry Taylor finished with 32 points and 11 rebounds for the Governors.

The Governors finished the game shooting 54 percent (35-of-65). The ‘Dons shot 42 percent (26-of-62).

Konchar finished with 24 points on 10-of-17 shooting while grabbing eight rebounds. Kason Harrell totaled 18 points. Matt Weir totaled 10 points.

Austin Peay improves to 6-4. Purdue Fort Wayne falls to 6-7.

The ‘Dons host IUPUI on Tuesday (Dec. 18) night. It will be a White Out sponsored by Lutheran Health to support the fight against all types of cancer. Purdue Fort Wayne faculty and staff can receive a free ticket if they show their ID at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum box office. Tip is set for 7 p.m. ET.
