By forcing overtime the Komets clinched a playoff spot for the sixth consecutive season – then they went ahead and picked up two points by beating the Indy Fuel in a shootout on Friday night at Indiana Farmers Coliseum.
The Komets got on the board less than two minutes into the first period when Brady Shaw netted his 26th goal of the season.
After yielding two goals to Indy, Shawn Szydlowski’s powerplay goal with just over two minutes remaining in the second period knotted the game at 2-2, eventually sending things into overtime.
After a scoreless OT both J.C. Campagna and Anthony Nellis converted their penalty shots while the Fuel went 0-for-2, sealing a 3-2 win for the Komets.
Zachary Fucale stopped 31-of-33 shots he faced in goal for the Komets.
The Komets close out the regular season with two games at home – Saturday against Cincinnati and Sunday against Wheeling.
