Komets can’t hold lead in loss to Cyclones

The Komets yielded four goals in the third period as Central Division leader Cincinnati rallied to defeat Fort Wayne 5-4 on Wednesday night at U.S. Bank Arena.

Mason Baptista scored two goals in the first period to give the Komets a 2-0 lead.

After a Cyclones goal cut it to 2-1, Phelix Martineau lit the lamp for the 10th time this year with less than two minutes left in the second period to give the Komets a 3-1 lead heading into the final frame of regulation.

A Sean Flanagan goal just over three minutes into the third built Fort Wayne’s lead to 4-1, but the Komets gave up four unanswered goals including the game-winner with 19 seconds left on the way to a 5-4 defeat.

Zach Fucale stopped 30-of-35 shots in goal for the Komets.

Next up, the Komets head to Canada for games on Saturday and Sunday against the Brampton Beast.
