Bishop Luers graduate and Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Kevin Kiermaier is heading back to the field shortly from a thumb injury that’s sidelined him for two months.

Kiermaier injured the thumb on his right hand April 15 and required surgery.

On Tuesday he’s scheduled to begin a rehab assignment with the Charlotte Stone Crabs in High-A.

A two-time Gold Glove winner, it’s the third major injury Kiermaier has suffered in the last three years.

Last year he missed significant time with a fracture in his hip while two years ago it was a broken bone in his hand.
