Huntington sweeps St. Francis on diamond

University of Saint Francis sophomore Jack Harris single-handedly helped the Cougars avoid getting no-hit by Huntington University Game 1, but the Cougars dropped a 5-0 verdict. Game 2 didn’t get much better for USF though the Cougars did get seven hits in an 11-2 loss.

HU improved to 9-0 in Crossroads League action after entering CL play with a 3-12 record.

Harris got USF’s lone hit leading off the fifth inning, a sharp single to right. HU’s Mason Shinaberry went the distance striking out 10 of the 23 batters he faced in the seven inning game at The ASH Centre World Baseball Academy on a frigid, cloudy afternoon. Fortunately, there wasn’t much wind though there were some light snow showers during Game 2.

USF scored twice in the bottom of the eighth ending a string of 21 consecutive scoreless innings against the Foresters. Freshman Kaden Sullivan came through with a two-out single to left that allowed Noah Freimuth and Tanner Gaff to score.

Keaton Sullivan had two of USF’s seven hits in Game 2.

HU outscored the Cougars 23-2 in the three-game series (HU won 7-0 on April 2), but USF is only two games under .500 heading to Spring Arbor University for a 3 p.m. nine-inning single game on Tuesday.
