Homestead's Starks commits to Detroit Mercy

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Homestead senior-to-be Sylare Starks made her college choice on Tuesday night as she verbally committed to Detroit Mercy.

Starks, a 5-foot-9 guard, averaged 18 points last season for the Spartans. It was her first season at Homestead after playing as a freshman and sophomore at Concordia.

As a junior she connected on 40 percent of her shots from the field and 88 percent from the free throw line.

She also averaged 3 assists and 1.7 steals per game for the Spartans.

Homestead won the SAC regular season title and finished 19-3 overall.

Starks is the second area player to commit to Detroit Mercy in the last few months. South Side junior-to-be Jaci Jones verbally committed to the Titans in May.
