FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – The Fort Wayne Sports Corporation, formed in 1990 by the Fort Wayne Chamber of Commerce and the then Fort Wayne Convention and Visitors Bureau to bring professional baseball to Fort Wayne, celebrated its Silver Anniversary Friday at its fifth annual “Party in the Park” at Parkview Field.

ESPN Baseball Analyst, Eric Wedge, returned home to host the event and many of Fort Wayne’s most famous sports celebrities appeared. Others in attendance included Jason Fabini (ten-year NFL veteran), former Fort Wayne Komets, and other notable athletes from the region.

Proceeds from Party in the Park V benefited The Wedge Foundation and the FWSC.

The Party in the Park allowed attendees to mingle with high profile sports figures while enjoying a sports memorabilia auction, award presentations, gourmet hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. A professional fireworks display highlighted the evening’s activities.

This was a special year for the FWSC. In addition to bringing the Minor League, Single A Fort Wayne Wizards to town shortly after its inception in 1990, the organization contributed to sports, health and fitness in the Fort Wayne community through its involvement in a number of other endeavors including the Lifetime Sports Academy, Fort4Fitness, Fort Wayne Relays, coaches clinics and much more. The FWSC honored the memory of its first 25 years with a presentation to two of the original board members, Mac Parker and Richard Waterfield.

In addition, the FWSC recognized Community Service Awards to a number of notable sportswriters from the area who are in, or will soon be inducted into, the Indiana Sportswriters and Sportscasters Hall of Fame including:

· Blake Sebring

· Ben Smith

· Steve Warden

The FWSC also honored legendary Komet commentator Bob Chase with the Hilliard Gates Lifetime Achievement Award, and long-time Fort Wayne Diving Meet coordinators Jack & Jill Curtis with the Judy Stuart Volunteerism Award.

The party included a silent and live auction of modern day sports memorabilia, sports game ticket packages, merchandise from local area businesses, and tickets to the 2015 Shamrock Series at historic Fenway Park.
