After being selected in the 15th round of the MLB Draft last month Fort Recovery High School standout Nick Thwaits has signed with the San Diego Padres.
Thwaits had been committed to play college baseball at Kent State.
As a senior at Fort Recovery Thwaits was 4-1 with a 0.87 ERA with 74 strikeouts in just over 40 innings.
A six-foot-one, 210-pound righty, Thwaits was selected with the 441st pick of the draft.
He could end up pitching for the Padres single-A affiliate – the Fort Wayne TinCaps – in the near future.
Per MLB.com’s Jim Callis Thwaits received a $450,000 deal to sign.
