COLUMBUS, Ohio – John Konchar finished with 13 points, nine rebounds and three assists but the Purdue Fort Wayne men’s basketball team fell 107-61 at Ohio State on Sunday (Nov. 11) afternoon.
The Mastodons took their first lead of the game on a Marcus DeBerry 3-pointer with 15:45 left in the first half. It put the Mastodons up 10-8. The lead went back-and-forth with neither team getting a lead of more than one possession until the Buckeyes went up five points with 10:25 left in the opening half. Matt Holba drained a 3-pointer seven minutes later to get the score back within a possession at 31-29. Ohio State responded by taking a lead as large as nine, before a Konchar layup at the buzzer put the ‘Dons down 41-34 at the break.
Ohio State earned some breathing room early in the first half with back-to-back 3-pointers by C.J. Jackson. The treys put the Buckeyes up 49-36 with 17:18 on the clock. The Buckeyes cemented the game later in the half with a 12-0 run
Kason Harrell joined Konchar with a team-high 13 points. Holba also scored in double-digits, adding 10 points.
Jackson had a game-high 25 points for the Buckeyes.
Ohio State moves to 2-0. Purdue Fort Wayne falls to 1-2.
The ‘Dons are back in action on Tuesday (Nov. 13) against Manchester. It will be a 7 p.m. tip at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum. The game will air live on Comcast CN81.
