Botts leaving IPFW for assistant job at Ball State

Sports

Ben Botts is the fifth-leading scorer in IPFW basketball history as a player and has spent the last four years as an assistant coach for the Mastodons, but the Muncie native is heading home.

Botts has been named an assistant coach at Ball State University. He’ll serve under BSU head coach James Whitford.

After graduating from IPFW, Botts cut his teeth in the coaching professional at Princeton and Xavier before returning to Fort Wayne.

A former basketball star at Muncie Central High School, Botts helped the Bearcats to the 4A state title game in 2005 and 2006. Both times the Bearcats lost to a Lawrence North team led by future NBA players Greg Oden and Mike Conley Jr.
