Bienz qualifies for US Amateur at Pebble Beach

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – This isn’t amateur hour, it’s the U.S. Amateur.

Nick Bienz qualified for the prestigious golf tournament held at Pebble Beach in a few weeks time. The Heritage graduate and current 5th-year senior at IUPUI says he hopes to enjoy the moment and play good golf.

Bienz won the Fort Wayne City Tournament a year ago and that helped vault his confidence.

He competed against a field of 80 at a regional site where just the top two competitors qualify. The way this tournament works is that the full field plays two rounds before a cut is made. The field that makes the final 64 will be paired up in matchplay – golf’s version of 1-on-1 – until a champion is crowned.

The U.S. Amateur has been won by the likes of Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods.
