FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Fort Wayne native and former Canterbury basketball standout Austin Hatch will receive the Wilma Rudolph Award given to college athletes wo have overcome tremendous odds to achieve academic success.
Hatch recently graduated from the University of Michigan.
A survivor of two plane crashes, Hatch played basketball for the Wolverines as a freshman. After his first season he took a role as an undergraduate student assistant with the team and finished school on medical scholarship.
Hatch is one of five student-athletes that will be honored with the Rudolph Award June 26 in Washignton, D.C.
