Homestead is coming off an 8-2 season where their only two losses were to Snider in the regular season and Snider in sectionals.
The Spartans have posting a winning record every year since 1994 and they don’t expect that streak to stop in 2018 when they return a total of 16 starters with eight on both sides of the ball.
Offensively, Homestead must replace quarterback Jiya Wright who’s now at Northern Illinois University. Last fall Wright won the Euell A. Wilson Award as the SAC’s top player, accounting for over 3,400 yards and 39 total TDs in the process. Junior Jake Archbold and sophomore Luke Goode are battling for the starting job, but whoever wins will have the talented Trevin Taylor (a team-best 47 receptions, 791 yards, and 13 TDs in 2017) to throw to.
Ball State recruit Porter Haught leads an offensive line tasked with blocking for a first-year starting QB.
Defensively, lineman and Fab 15 selection Tico Brown is now at Central Michigan University, but defensive back Cam Shannon (4 INTs in 2017) will be tasked with leading the secondary while linebacker Cam Rogers will lead in the middle. Austin Layton and Aaron Harris will be asked to lead along the line.
Homestead opens the season August 17 at home against Northrop.
