Train derailment forces closure of Hartzell Road in New Haven

NEW HAVEN (Ind.) – According to the New Haven Police Department, multiple train cars went off the tracks causing road closures Friday morning. The cars have since been moved.

Affected roads included: State St, High St, Broadway Ave and Green Rd.  Because of the derailment, Hartzell Road at the Norfolk Southern Railroad tracks will be closed as of noon Friday until midnight Saturday.

The police department was alerted to the hazard by Norfolk and Southern Railroad. Crews have been inspecting the train cars. Since their work began early Friday, they’ve pulled the train forward and uncoupled the cars at the State Street crossing.

Around a dozen Norfolk Southern workers have been working on the car at State Street. They’ve used hydraulics and other heavy equipment to get the car back on the tracks.
