FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Jessie Bates is changing course when it come to his choice for college.

After verbally committing to the University of Toledo in the summer Bates announced via his Twitter account on Monday that he has flipped his commitment to Wake Forest.

Bates tweeted:

“I’m Officially Going To Decommit From The University Of Toledo & Commit To Wake Forest University❗️ Thanks For All The Support! #blessed.”

Bates took a recruiting visit to Wake Forest this past weekend, prompting his switch.

A 6-foot-2 safety, Bates was selected to WANE’s “Fab 15” by the area’s coaches. As a senior for the Panthers Bates racked up 62 tackles, eight interceptions, and two forced fumbles. He also returned two punts for a touchdown.

Bates is expected to signing with Wake on Wednesday’s “National Signing Day,” the first day college seniors can signing Division I football scholarships.
