FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Upscale steakhouse Ruth’s Chris will open a location inside the Skyline Tower in downtown Fort Wayne, city officials announced Friday.

Officials with the city and Great Lakes Capital announced the deal in a press conference inside Mayor Tom Henry’s Citizens Square office Friday. It will open a street-level restaurant, officials said.

“We’ll be in on the ground floor, literally, of this revitalization in Fort Wayne. When I come here, I can feel the energy and I want to be the first major restaurant in downtown,” Larry Griggers, franchise partner of Ruth’s Chris Steak House, said.

Ruth’s Chris operates more than 100 steakhouses across the United States, including in Indianapolis. Fort Wayne’s location will be the fourth in Indiana.

“It was a first thought and a big thought and the project deserves it. Downtown deserves it,” Brad Toothaker, managing partner of Great Lakes Capital, the Skyline Tower developer, said.

The restaurant will be next to the Ash Skyline Plaza development, which will be home to upscale eatery The Golden, boutique The Find, chocolatier DeBrand Fine Chocolates, the Skyline YMCA health and wellness storefront facility, law firm Barnes & Thornburg’s offices and a Lake City Bank branch. The Ash Brokerage offices and a parking garage are also part of that building.

Skyline Tower is the residential part of the project and will have 124 apartments. Construction is expected to start by this summer.

Ruth’s Chris is expected to open in fall 2017.
