The need for an emergency supply of food may pop into your mind every now and then. But, do you have such a supply in your home?

In this special report, Chief Meteorologist Nicholas Ferreri turns to a source you might not think of for tips on how to prepare your pantries – The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, also known as The Mormon Church.  The Mormons place a high importance on being self-reliant and having extra food on hand.

The church operates one of its Home Storage Centers in Indianapolis.  Just a couple of hours south of Fort Wayne, you can stock up on emergency food storage items to help keep your cupboards full.

The center offers 23 different food items for sale, including both large cans and cases of items like wheat, beans, spaghetti, pancake mix, dehydrated milk and more.  It’s located at 5151 W. 84th St. on Indy’s northwest side with regular hours of operation from 10 am – 2 pm on Tuesdays and Saturdays.  Since it is a bit of a drive from Fort Wayne, you may wish to call the Home Storage Center ahead of time at (317) 872-1754 to make sure they are open.

In the video posted with this story, Chief Meteorologist Nicholas Ferreri shares tips from those who already have their shelves stocked, so that you can get an idea of where to start.
