FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Several community leaders in Fort Wayne spent their Sunday brainstorming ways to help those most in need in the Summit City.

The Homeless in the City of Churches panel is working to raise awareness for the homeless in our community. Leaders cite Utah as an example. The state started giving free housing and a case worker to homeless about ten years ago.

“My theory is if Utah can do it, Fort Wayne can do it. It’s a program that works. We’re all just a step away from joining homeless people. One bad streak of luck, misfortune, or you lose your job,” Terry Doran, the event organizer, said.

Leaders say there are around 2,000 homeless people living in our community.
