2018 hurricane season forecast

National/World

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association considered the 2017 Atlantic hurricane season to be “extremely active”.  17 named storms developed and 10 became hurricanes.  Six of those were major hurricanes, ranking as either Category 3, 4 or 5.

The upcoming hurricane season is looking to be almost as busy as last year’s.

Colorado State University issued its preliminary seasonal forecast on Thursday and forecasters expect a slightly above-average season with 14 named storms.  Seven of these are expected to become hurricanes with 3 being major hurricanes.

The Atlantic hurricane season lasts from June through November.

Colorado State will update its outlook on May 31.
