An Angola woman was killed Tuesday afternoon in a multi-vehicle crash in Steuben County.
Police and medics were called just after 3 p.m. to U.S. 20 at the intersection of C.R. 360 West, just west of Interstate 69 on a report of an injury crash there.
According to a Steuben County Sheriff’s Department report, 58-year-old Bruce A. Coney of Angola was stopped in a 2008 Dodge truck waiting to turn south onto CR 360 from U.S. 20 when a 2000 Ford Explorer driven by Tedd J. Moss, 54, of Angola, came up behind him and attempted to stop for the stopped Dodge.
As Moss slowed his Explorer, a vehicle driven by 22-year-old Jake Fink of LaGrange struck its rear and pushed the Explorer into the Dodge truck. The Explorer then was forced into oncoming traffic, where it struck a 1999 Peterbuilt semi tractor-trailer driven by Benjamin T Matheny, 29, of Utica, Ohio, head on.
A passenger in the Ford Explorer – 55-year-old Cindy L. Mirkle of Angola – was pronounced dead at the scene by Steuben County Coroner Bill Harter of blunt force trauma.
Moss was airlifted to a Fort Wayne hospital. His condition was not known.
Coney, Fink and Matheny were not hurt.
The crash remains under investigation.
