FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A motorcyclist was killed in a crash along West State Boulevard Monday morning.

Police and medics were called just before 7 a.m. to the 2100 block of West State Boulevard, in front of the Dana Corporation plant, on reports of an crash with injuries involving a motorcycle.

First responders arrived to find a man down in the roadway. Officers then medics attempted life-saving measures, and the motorcyclist – a man – was taken to a local hospital, where he ultimately died.

He was identified later Monday as 31-year-old Brian K. Jewell of Fort Wayne. The Allen County Coroner’s Office said Jewell died of multiple blunt force injuries.

Police said in a news release that the motorcycle was headed west on State when he swerved to avoid an eastbound SUV that was turning into a Dana lot. In the process of swerving, the motorcycle grazed the rear corner of the SUV then side-swiped an eastbound sedan, and he was thrown from the motorcycle.

The driver of the SUV was not hurt, but the driver of the sedan suffered minor injuries to her arms, police said.

State Boulevard was closed while police investigated the crash.
