Local News

A man was hurt Monday after police said he stole a car and took police on a 100 mph chase before crashing.

WANE 15 learned that the situation began in Avilla, when a vehicle was stolen. While officers were taking the report, the stolen vehicle was spotted by a Kendallville officer east of Kendallville on U.S. 6 near S.R. 327, and a pursuit ensued.

The pursuit continued onto Interstate 69 and then to S.R. 205. The vehicle crossed S.R. 3 then went airborne and the driver lost control. The vehicle side-swiped a trailer that was being pulled by a truck that had moved to the side of the road when the driver noticed the emergency lights.

The stolen vehicle ended up on its top.

The male driver was transported from the scene but not with severe injuries. A female passenger was not hurt.

The pursuit lasted about 20 minutes and reached speeds upwards of 100 mph, police said.

Kendallville Police was assisted by Indiana State Police in the pursuit.
