Two dogs were rescued from icy conditions on Crooked Lake Friday morning.
The Angola Fire Department responded at 9:15 a.m. to 4401 W. Orland Road on the Third Basin of Crooked Lake after a neighbor called 911.
When firefighters arrived, they found two dogs in the water.
One dog was almost to shore but needed help getting out of the water. The second dog was about 50 yards out, treading water, according to the fire department.
Rescue personnel broke through the remaining ice and clipped a rope to the dog’s collar. The animal was brought back safely to shore.
Both dogs are back with their owner.
The Angola Fire Department wants to warn people about the ice melting on bodies of water.
We are asking that people use extreme caution in the days to come when on or around the ice as to the temperatures are rising and the ice will deteriorate quickly. Remember if it won’t hold a dog it probably won’t hold a human.
