Five people, including three children, were badly hurt after a pickup truck crashed into their horse and buggy.
Police said the Amish buggy was crossing through the intersection of County Road 600 W and U.S. 20 around 10:40 p.m. Friday. That’s when a pickup truck driving south on 600 W ran a stop sign going too fast and hit the buggy.
All five passengers were ejected onto the road.
The parents and two of their children, 1 and 3, were taken to a hospital by ambulance with various injuries.
Another child, 2, had to be airlifted by helicopter to another hospital for more severe injuries.
The driver of the truck, Lavon Ray Hochstetler, 18, Lagrange, was given citations for Disregarding a Stop Sign, Speed too Fast to Avoid Collision, and Operating with no Financial Responsibility.
Indiana State Police are investigating the crash.
