A garbage truck is in good condition and no injuries were reported thanks to a quick-thinking driver after the truck caught fire Monday morning on State Road 3.

Just before 7:30 Monday morning, fire crews were called the parking lot of Lifehouse Church off of Cedar Canyons Road in response to a garbage truck that had caught fire.

The driver told WANE 15 that he was driving north on State Road 3 when he noticed flames coming out of the back of his truck. Supervisors for Waste Management said the driver’s response was textbook.

Once he noticed the flames, he pulled onto Cedar Canyons Road and into the parking lot of Lifehouse Church. He found a gravel area there and dumped the trash.

Firefighters were soon on the scene to spray the garbage and put out the fire. Officials with Waste Management are still inspecting the truck, but it appears not to have any damage. No one was injured.
Waste Management says the quick-thinking from the driver and quick response from firefighters kept people safe and prevented damage.

The cause of the fire is uncertain but officials with the company said that sometimes chemical reactions can occur inside of the garbage that can lead to fires.
