Medical personnel tried to revive a two-year-old girl for over 12 hours after she was found in an above ground pool in Marion on Wednesday.

According to the Grant County Sheriff’s Department, dispatchers received a 911 call just after 8 p.m. from a residence in the 2000 block of East Bradford Pike.

The caller said her two-year-old granddaughter had been found in a pool on the property and was not breathing.

The little girl’s grandmother who had been watching the child while her father was at work began CPR before an Indiana State Police trooper and a DNR officer arrived on the scene.

The two officers continued medical assistance and the girl was taken to a Marion hospital where staff were able to regain a pulse.

The girl was flown to Riley Hospital in Indianapolis where staff worked for over 12 hours to save her.  She was pronounced dead on Thursday.

Investigators were able to determine that the girl was home with her older brother and grandmother.

She had been playing inside and outside while her grandmother did dishes and cleaned the house. It’s believed 15-20 minutes passed before the grandmother began to look for her and that’s when the girl was found in the pool which is accessed from a ladder.

The investigation is ongoing and because some family members live in other states who have yet to be notified no names are yet being released.
