TinCaps 11th season kicks off with a win at Parkview Field

Local News

TinCaps Baseball is back in Fort Wayne for another season of action, after a record-breaking year in 2018.

The TinCaps kicked off the 2019 season with a win against the Lansing Lugnuts. After the game, fans enjoyed the first of 30 post-game fireworks displays.

Now in the 11th season at Parkview Field in downtown Fort Wayne, TinCaps management is looking forward to what could be the biggest and best season yet.

Hear what TinCaps President Mike Nutter had to say about the upcoming season in the live interview below.

“In 2019, we’ll have fireworks at nearly half of our home games, which we know fans love,” TinCaps President Mike Nutter said. “We owe a big thanks to our fans for making Parkview Field so special and making our atmosphere one of the best in all of Minor League Baseball.”

New features this year include a new giant slide in the Kids/Fun Zone, a new snack shack with items like funnel cake fries and apple pie bites, a new group seating area in the left-center field area, and new themed games like The Office Night.

Fans can also expect the usual highlights that they’ve come to love over the years like Thirsty Thursdays, the July 4th fireworks display, and Star Wars Night.

The 2019 season will include:

  • 70 home games
  • 30 postgame fireworks shows
  • 12 Thirsty Thursday home games
  • 11 Friday night home games
  • 11 Saturday night home games
  • 10 Sunday home games with postgame autographs
  • 7 midweek day games with either 11:05 a.m. or 12:05 p.m. start times

Here’s a look at the special 2019 Theme Jerseys that will correspond with some of the most popular promotional games:

The action on the field is looking promising as well with some top-rated prospects joining the team. That includes starting pitcher Ryan Weathers, whose dad, David Weathers, pitched in the big leagues for 19 years.

Fans got a first look at the rest of the players on the roster and got to meet some of them Wednesday during the TinCaps Meet the Team Night.

It was a unique opportunity, as some of those players will go on to play in the major leagues.

Fort Wayne has seen no shortage of baseball talent. The city’s baseball club has had 175 former players reach the major leagues, including recent alumnus Fernando Tatis Jr., who played for the TinCaps two years ago.

Tatis Jr. now plays for the San Diego Padres and is already making highlights in the MLB this season. Nick Margevicius pitched for the TinCaps last season and is also now playing with the Padres.

The TinCaps got off to a good start with a win in their first game of the 2019 season Thursday.
