Teen raises over $11K for Wabash Shop With A Cop

Local News

For eight years now, Brenton Yarger has raised money for the Wabash Shop with A Cop event.

This year, Yarger, 16, raised $11,277 to help Wabash Police Officers shop for kids for the holidays. He raises the money throughout the year by standing outside Walmart and local businesses with a collection bucket as well as collecting cans and scrap metal.

Yarger was at the Wabash Walmart where the event was held Saturday morning. He was also presented with a certificate to be Wabash City Police Chief for a day, by Major Bob Pilgrim.

Gifts were purchased for 237 kids at the event and they were able to spend over $100 on each one.

Over the time Yarger has participated in Shop with A Cop, he has raised over $42,000 over the eight years personally giving gifts to over 400 kids. The Yarger family attributes the success to the generous donations from the community and all of the law enforcement officers who put on the event.
