A swim advisory for the West Lakes Chain remains in effect until further notice, according to the Noble County Health Department. The health department says people swim at their own risk.
The advisory was originally issued on Saturday, June 23, 2018 when a single test result showed a high concentration of E. coli bacteria at the mouth of the stream near the sandbar on Steinbarger Lake.
The health department says other tests were done in other areas of Steinbarger Lake, but those areas did not show a high concentration of E. coli bacteria.
Further testing has been done upstream on Boughey Ditch, but officials have been unable to positively identify a single source point of the bacteria.
The Indiana Department of Environmental Management is now working with the health department to determine the cause of the high readings. The Noble County Health Department says extensive testing will continue.
