A standoff along Columbia Avenue early Wednesday ended after an hour after a tactical team fired gas into the home. Two people were taken into custody.
It was around 8 a.m. when the Fort Wayne Police Department’s Vice and Narcotics division and an Emergency Services Team served an arrest warrant for 23-year-old Matthew Martin at a home in the 800 block of Columbia Avenue, near Loree Street near the split with Saint Joseph Boulevard.
When officers arrived, some people came out, but Martin and a woman – 40-year-old Eva Tarvin – did not, and they barricaded themselves inside the home, police said.
Police blared sirens and used a loudspeaker to contact a person inside, saying they have a warrant for that person’s arrest. They also said that they know the person inside was armed.
A short time later, police fired gas into the home and the suspects came out.
Martin was arrested on three counts of Level 2 Dealing Methamphetamine, one count of Level 4 Dealing Methamphetamine, Possession of Stolen Property, and an outstanding warrant for Non-Compliance for Possession of Methamphetamine.
Tarvin was arrested on two counts of Level 4 Dealing Methamphetamine.
All told, the standoff lasted about an hour, police said. Columbia Avenue was closed to traffic during the situation.
