Sol Fest returns for another year of fun in the sun

Local News

Spring weather is finally sticking around, and that means people are looking for ways to get outside and take advantage of it. One opportunity comes this weekend with Sol Fest.

It stands for Sunshine and Outdoor Living Festival and celebrates the sun and warmer weather with dozens of activities and live performances.

It’s not all about fun and games though. It also aims to help a good cause.

The annual event is Allen County Parks’ main fundraiser for their scholarship fund. The fund gives children, who wouldn’t otherwise be able to, the opportunity to attend school field trips and summer day camps offered at the county parks for free.

The two-day festival kicks off Saturday at noon and runs until 7 p.m. at Fox Island County Park. It continues Sunday from noon to 7 p.m. also.

The family friendly event features two full days of live local music, featuring 18 local music acts.

Don’t forget the adults though. The Mad Anthony Brewery Beer and Wine Garden will be there offering craft beers and wine next to the music stage area.

People can also rent canoes, kayaks, and paddle boards from Fort Wayne Outfitters to use on Bowman Lake at the park. And don’t forget the eight miles of trails available to explore around Fox Island County Park.

Several information, merchandise, and food vendor booths will also be at Sol Fest 2018.
