FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - A person riding in a vehicle was seriously hurt when shots rang out from another vehicle on the city's south side mid-afternoon Wednesday.
Police and medics were called just after 3 p.m. at West Packard Avenue and Clinton Court, just north of South Side High School.
Police at the scene told WANE 15 that a vehicle was headed south on Clinton Court when a maroon vehicle pulled up alongside it and someone inside opened fire. A front-seat passenger in the vehicle was struck in the torso.
The vehicle continued down Clinton Court and tried turning westbound on Packard Avenue but veered off the road, narrowly missing a light pole before coming to a stop, police said.
The passenger in the vehicle - identified only as a male - was taken to a nearby hospital in serious condition, police said. The driver and another passenger were not hurt.
The maroon car continued on. Police have no suspect information.
Police gathered shell casings around Clinton Court, with an area blocked off. A vehicle could be seen along a sidewalk, with police tape wrapped around it, as well.
Nearby South Side was placed in a lockout.
