WHITLEY COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) – Several dozen firefighters from multiple departments battled a large house fire Saturday night in the unincorporated town of Dunfee.
The home at 5498 Dontatello Drive caught fire around 11:30 p.m.
Firefighters from Whitley County initially responded but additional departments, including several from Allen County, were also called. Fire officials said the housing addition, which sits on the Whitley County side of West County Line Road, does not have fire hydrants.
Dozens of tanker trucks were called to the home which sits in a cul-de-sac.
Firefighters were able to knock most of the flames down in about an hour. The intense flames forced firefighters to battle from the outside and from several different directions.
Five people inside, including the family dog, were able to escape without serious injury, according to fire officials.
It wasn’t immediately known what started the fire.
The fast-moving fire quickly brought down the home’s roof. Fire officials said the house is a total loss.
