Second Open Streets event gets people moving

Local News

Hundreds of people came downtown today for the second annual Open Streets event Sunday.

The city closed off 18 blocks of Calhoun Street for a giant block party featuring such things as boxing demos, yoga, art, pickleball, and live music.

Organizers with Fort Wayne’s Public Works division say it’s a great way to draw attention to improvements they’ve made to roads and sidewalks.

It also encourages people to get moving and get fit.

“I think we all know that we need to move more, and so this definitely encourages movement,” said Amy Hartzog, program manager of Fort Wayne Public Works. “In the future we would hope to hold more than one of these, and move it around the city, so that we can continue to meet people where they live.

Fort Wayne is one of 39 cities in the U-S to host an Open Streets event. WANE-TV was a proud partner of today’s festivities.
